In addition to making its password manager available to everyone, the company announced a new feature that allows users to securely share any password with others. With LastPass making important changes to its free password tier, it can’t help but see Dropbox’s move as an attempt to attract new customers. Not only do they help keep track of passwords and usernames, but they also help create complex passwords that are not easy to crack. These days, people have dozens of accounts, whether it’s a social media login or a Netflix subscription, which is what makes password managers so important.
Basic users can also sync their passwords on up to three devices, while Plus users have no such limitation. If you exceed this limit, you’ll have to pay for a Dropbox Plus plan.
Dropbox Basic users can only save 50 passwords at a time. When you visit a website, Dropbox Passwords automatically enter your saved username and password. You can access your saved passwords through a browser extension or app on your mobile phone or desktop. This means that saved passwords and logins are protected and only accessible to users. The free version of Dropbox Passwords offers the same knowledge-free encryption feature. Dropbox Passwords, a feature launched last August for competing services like 1Password, was previously only available to Plus subscribers. Dropbox users on a free basic plan will soon have access to the service’s password manager.
